Where is wolsey clothing made

I sense a revival of British clothes manufacturing. Much has gone, but there is still a fantastic choice of British made clothes out there, whether you want to spend a lot or not very much money. Here you can find links and information, in no particular order, about British made clothes, for men, women and children.

This article is ongoing and I will add to it when I discover more British clothes manufacturers and suppliers. Only companies that actually make or supply clothes made in the UK will be featured here, not simply companies that used to make clothes in the UK or are just selling clothes in the UK.

The products I list here are genuinely made in the UK, not simply labelled to imply British heritage or manufacture. Video: Wolsey Ltd — Telegraph. It thrived, and more than a hundred years later, in , it changed family ownership, as Robert Walker and Sons discovered "unshrinkable wool" they could use to make underwear. From this, they established Wolsey, one of England's first registered trademarks, which soon became the first brand of leisure sportswear in Edwardian times.

Think football and polo shirts, golf socks, bathing trunks, and in one masterful publicity stunt from , clothes for Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen and the great British explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott for their notorious expeditions.

By World War I, the brand was directing 75 percent of its production toward the war effort. Yet, despite this legacy — technically, this is one of the the oldest clothing companies still in existence — that's not what Wolsey which was re-branded and re-launched in wants to focus on now, as they make their first foray into US sales this fall.

We talk about the history. The brand became a market leader in the design and manufacture of golf clothes and other sportswear, which was successfully marketed under the name of "Sportsman". This was later extended into and outdoor leisure range. This honour has been held through the reigns of consecutive monarchs and remains with the company to the present day. Wolsey consistently endorsed marketing as a method to ensure the company would stay ahead of its competitors.

In a new Chairman, Leslie Miller, was appointed and he undertook a significant role in the marketing strategy of the business. His leadership saw the company successfully evolve its merchandising and product range over the next two decades. In Wolsey became part of the Coutaulds Textiles Group and was later sold to the group, giving access to greater resources and success.

The company grew into the European market with the launch of subsidiary companies in Sweden, Germany, Austria and Switzerland Montreal and Canada. In the 70s Wolsey ranges were selected for numerous sporting organisations and teams, as well as individual sportsmen and women.

Following this Wolsey continued to be a popular choice of golf wear particularly in Asia, Australia and Canada. As a response to high demand overseas and in the UK the brand focused on its menswear collection. Wolsey became the first company in the UK to receive the British Standard BS n for quality systems in sock manufacturing. After 94 years at Abbey Meadows, in the company moved its headquarters to a modern warehouse and administration facility on the north east fringes of Leicester city.

Alongside this, also saw a complete re-branding exercise, with the fox logo and Wolsey name being updated to be seamless across the world. In Wolsey celebrated its th Anniversary, a truly remarkable achievement for the company.
