Players can equip up to 3 primary weapons at once, but only after purchasing additional backpack space can be rented for GP. Sort of like the champion rotation in League of Legends , this gives players the chance to test out these weapons before having to rent them with their hard-earned GP.
In terms of cosmetics, Combat Arms has a lot of customization options. Players can purchase masks, sunglasses, vests, and even hats. A lot of the more interesting cosmetic items requires real cash though.
Aside from NX and free rotation weapons, gear has rank requirements. Permanent weapons can also be upgraded and crafted into new weapons at the "Forge," but this is limited to players who actually have permanent weapons. Like Alliance of Valiant Arms and many other free-to-play FPS games, weapons can only be rented, not purchased permanently. At least with GP. Those willing to spend NX, Nexon's premium cash shop currency, can purchase permanent weapons.
Oddly, weapons can only be rented for 1 day at a time with GP. Having to re-buy expired weapons on a daily basis feels a bit silly. Rented weapons can't even be customized, which means only paying players can ever experience the game's weapon customization system. The whole free rotation weapons help keep things fresh though. Every week players can try out a whole bunch of new weapons entirely for free, which sort of makes up for the lack of permanent weapons. Players unwilling to pay are basically limited to the free rotation weapons and maybe one or two rented weapons at a time and a backpack.
Simply by playing the game, players earn experience points towards their next rank. Almost every weapon in the game requires a certain minimum rank to equip, so players will be limited to the starting and free rotation weapons early on. Certain channels also require a minimum rank to join. The beginner channels are level restricted so only newer players can access them with other channels only available to players of a certain rank.
Combat Arms also keeps track of player stats like kills and deaths, but it's nowhere near as in-depth as the stat system in Alliance of Valiant Arms.
