For this article I thought I would write a detailed comparison of the Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix with the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus , which is also a very popular option for infant car seats. As your baby grows, they will get heavier quicker than you can imagine! Both are practically the same size. Being a slightly newer model, the Pebble Plus has some improvements over the Cabriofix. Also, it is an i-size car seat i-size is an EU regulation brought in , which makes it easier to install, provides better protection from side impacts and keep babies in the rear facing position for longer.
Although both options are fine, the Pebble Plus just shades it, because of the i-size feature which enhances safety. I cleaned the cover last week, but it took me ages to figure out how to take it off, and putting it back was a challenge too. It might just be me and my clumsy hands, but other customers seem to have issues with it too. We purchased the Silver Cross Wayfarer when our daughter was younger, and it came with the right adaptors for Maxi-Cosi.
Using the EasyFix base is even simpler. Before, we were sweating bricks slotting Isabella in between her 5-year old brothers. We literally just click-and-go with green meaning go.
The EasyFix base is heavy and uses a support leg which rests on the car floor. It might not work installing with a seat belt. You need some length to position the belt around the back of the chair. However, you could have a short belt using it with the EasyFix base. The CabrioFix fits into all three of the Maxi Cosi bases. The EasyFix base is the affordable option, designed soley to use with the Cabriofix up to around 12 months.
It allows you to install the seat with the car seat belt or ISOFIX points, making clicking in and out of the car very simple. Like the CabrioFix seat, this base can be used from birth to 13kg. With the FamilyFix you can put the Cabriofix into an extra upright position for when they need more legroom.
Strapping Isabella in is quick and easy. Because when am I not in a hurry? Hence why I appreciate the strap hooks that save any fumbling for straps underneath a seated baby. I less appreciate is routing underneath her for the harness lock…again in a hurry but it is a minor. The carry handle is comfortable in-hand and has multi-positions, shame you need two hands to adjust it. The Pebble has been vigorously tested with the FamilyFix Base and has a top rating for safety, with a roll cage like structure in its base — making it extremely sturdy and great in any impact situation.
Both Car Seats include a head hugger and a support pillow for a newborn removable on both the Pebble or the CabrioFix for when your little one has grown. Both car seats also come with an integrated sun canopy, belt pads and a head support.
The CabrioFix comes with an ergonomic carrying handle, keeping it extra comfortable and clean to hold. The Pebble is ever so slightly thinner meaning it is airline approved. The Pebble also weighs 4. The height adjustment on the car seats is slightly different.
