Shakespeare uses monologue, dialogue imagery, and symbolism to make the readers understand how jealousy is a humiliating and devastating of emotions among human beings in this tragedy. Iago is envious of Othello and it appears that he makes it his goal to destroy the happiness the others. First, Iago seeks out Othello to give him false news of Desdemona having an affair with Cassio. This jealousy stems from his inability to put reason over emotion, resulting in his passions ruling his actions.

As the play progresses, the audience has no choice but to watch in sympathetic horror. The image of Desdemona and Cassio making love in his bed, fuel his jealousy and ultimately drive him mad. They were both jealous of Othello and wanted to get all the revenge they were able to get for all that Othello had done to them.
